石井紫郎氏は1935年生まれだから、その後継者としては1947年生まれの水林彪氏あたりが穏当なような感じがしないでもないけど、水林氏は優秀ではあっても民主主義科学者協会法律部会の人で、要するに共産党系と見られたから抵抗があったのかな。

新田一郎氏は文学部出身だから、石井紫郎氏の後継者として東大法学部で法制史を担当するようになった時は結構大変だったのではないかな。もちろん私は詳しい事情など知らないけど、水林彪氏の著書・論文に入れ込むようになった後では、何故水林氏でなかったのか、ちょっと不思議に思ったことがある。
