六月八日、義時邸に落雷があり、一名死亡。義時はこれを朝廷を傾けようとする自分に対する天罰ではないか、不吉な出来事が起きるのでは、などと心配して大江広元に相談。広元は奥州合戦の際に幕府の陣に落雷があったことに触れ、むしろ関東においては佳例だと返答。
